LOVED that movie. I used to have that pin-up FROM THAT magazine hanging on my bedroom wall. (Just ask Melissa). I had the biggest girlhood crush of Ralph. He's aged nicely. That movie is STILL good all these years later.

I made latkes on Christmas Day. It is a tradition here to have them then but I have never added apple to them. Have to try that addition. We really savour them on Xmas day because it had been a whole year since having them. Maybe we should not wait so long!!

YOu have my unmitigated envy. I am a horrible latke maker. The only thing that saves my latkes is that my husband loves potatoes so much that a bad latke doesn't matter to him. I never had a bubbe to teach me the right way to make latkes. My husband's grandmother died many years ago. She was supposedly a kickass cook, but I never met her so she couldn't pass her wisdom on to me. My mother in law is not a cook by her own admission. I'm stuck floundering in the latke kitchen. Oh well. I make many decent variations on mashed potatoes.

ECM - Double crane kick At&t's ass for us. We hate them too. Finally dropped them from home dsl & phone service after 6 months straight of problems and slow ass service. Now that we've switched to cable internet and Vonage phone, we couldn't be happier. At&t said it isn't too late to go back... Um, much slower internet, bad phone service, frustrating customer service and all for at a higher price. Nah we're good. On the other hand, those are some damn tasty potato pancakes. The apple is a sweet touch. Give me some honey & I'm in heaven. Todd.

I just happened to stumble across your blog and flying fig newtons, I love it! I am new to blogging and wanted to see what others were doing and yours is the most, umm, honest and hysterical I have found. No I had the best third grade teacher ever, she had been teaching so long a college degree wasn't required when she started.

She was so good that when I got to 4th grade I already knew every thing except Long Division and that teacher let alone, other than Long Division, and let me read.

Oooh, i love the grated apple. But I notice in your recipe, you're missing a step, "Grate potatoes until you accidentally grate your finger tips and let a few drops of blood fall into the batter." That's what made Bubbie's latkes taste so good! :)
