bits & pieces...

Has anybody been watching Carrier on PBS? If you have... your thoughts? If you haven't, you need to. It's a documentary filmed on the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. I'm really surprised at the honesty, believe it or not. Sex, religion, politics, war, and family are all talked about and there's a salsa dancing gunny sergeant. I'm obsessed.

When watching Deadliest Catch, does anybody else think that they would get soooo sick on a crab boat or I'm gonna hurl right now because I can't even watch the boat pitch and roll on TV? or am I extra sensitive freak?

I watched Juno last night. I didn't really care for it. Maybe because I was a pregnant teen and most of it wasn't very realistic? Are teens that witty? And how come the baby daddy (yes, I just used the term baby daddy) was let off the hook? I know a lot of people found it pro life or pro choice. I didn't get that from the movie. I found it to be a fairy tale. Am I a big ol' meanie because I didn't find it at all charming, just somewhat annoying?

*update: I wanted to see this movie in the theatre and I really, really, really wanted to like it, so I'm disappointed that I didn't. There were some good parts, it was just overall...blah... Help me understand why I didn't like it.

*big post late this afternoon.

I can't even watch deadliest catch now. After having kids, I think your body is all out of whack. Have you been on swing lately or tried doing a cartwheel? Scary, very scary!

mmmm M&Ms :)

I keep meaning to watch Juno since everyone made such a big deal about it, but now I have another reason to continue putting it off. There are just so many other things to watch.

What channel is carrier on?
Deadliest catch is my crack. I can't look away. But I know in my heart I'd make it about 3 seconds before losing my stomach. There's no possible way.

I haven't seen Juno and it's not high on my list. I have a couple friends whose daughters delivered in the 15 year old range and I've worried plenty given that I've raised 3 daughters. I don't need Hollywood romanticizing teen pregnancy or even worse coming down on one side or the other of the pro-life/pro-choice debate.

*asthma girl... it's on your local pbs station... if you like deadlist catch you'll like carrier.

I loved Juno, but only for the 'slanguage' and not because I thought it was at all a real account of teen pregnancy. It's the sole reason I now call my husband a 'vag.' That was worth the rental fee alone.

And yes, when I watch Deadliest Catch all I can think is, "Aaaah!"

I liked Juno for the witty dialogue, but I agree. Not very realistic AT ALL. No teen is that quick with the comebacks. Reminded me of Gilmore Girls. (Which I love for the same reasons. But find TOTALLY fantasy land.)

And come to think of it, the father DID get off the hook in a big way.

I am really enjoying Carrier and since I missed a couple episodes I am on the look-out for the DVD or re-runs. Have you seen the last episode - Full Circle. Made me cry

Juno - Baby Daddy got off way too easy, I also belive it was a little in fantasy land with regards to her going through the pregnancy. I did like how the parents reacted and acted throughout.

thanks - Have a great weekend

I really enjoyed Juno, but I'm with everyone else, it was nice comedy. Like 40 Year Virgin without the porn. And that wasn't a really realistic movie, either.

But, I did love the dialogue.

And I love Deadliest Catch. And now I have to watch Carrier. Thank you for adding to my t.v. obsession. :)

you're making me question juno's place on my netflix list. everyone who didn't like that movie didn't like it for some of the reasons you mention. go to rottentomatoes.com for more.

deadliest catch, haven't watched that in a long time (I don't really watch tv). I could probably be on the boat. I don't get motion sickness at all and actually like movement like that sometimes.

On another topic, how do you find the time to post everyday, let alone twice in one day?

Seriously, you're bionic.

*UD and Carrie and Annie, I loved the dialogue, some of it didn't ring true to me. Vag was great though, I can imagine your husband's look, UD. It did remind me and my husband of Gilmore Girls maybe that's why it was kind of a been there done that with me. I'm really flummoxed by my reaction to this movie and I can't pinpoint it.

*melissa... i don't watch much tv either... i watch top chef and deadlist catch and pbs once in awhile. that's why i am so obsessed with carrier. i haven't seen something this good in a long time.

*yummy mummy... too much tea, not enough sleep, bad nightmares and neglect of my children is the reason i post so much. it's been a weird week around here. down time in the morning and from about one o'clock it's non stop go, go, go until about midnight or so.

Hi! Found you thru Snooty Primadonna.
I am a big Deadliest Catch Fan but would seruiously be seasick non stop on one of those boats. If you check out my blog I have a pic of 3 of the captains and me at a book signing.

oooh i loved juno. it was so clever and honest and enjoyable. you are the second person i've met who didn't like it. the other person said they hated juno's voice... so that ruined the movie for them.

That movie is sitting in my house right now just waiting for me to watch it. I'm sure it is a fairy tale. My hubby has taken care of a lot of teen pregnancies in his practice and the stories are rarely happy-happy tales.

Twenty years ago, I would have probably loved Juno. Sitting in the theatre with my 15-year-old daughter, though, I hated it. HATED it. I thought it totally trivialized the enormity of the situation for everyone.

Maybe you can't ever have been in that situation, or imagine you or your daughter or girlfriend in that situation, and like the movie. It's just so no that easy and cool.
