Ferosh! or a little amuse bouche...

Driving Sous Chef Katie home from school the other day the conversation went something like this...

"Hey Mom. You aren't going to believe me but I'm going to tell you anyways."

"Alright."

"There's this guy at school, he's out by the way, he talks to you based on your outfit."

"What?! No, he does not." I'm cracking up.

"Oh, yes he does. If you are in the hallway and you look tore up you might get a nod or he'll just walk right on by. If you look pretty good, he'll stop say hi and maybe give you a hug. If you have a really good outfit on he'll give you a hug, maybe two and talk to you in the hallway. Today, was a two hug day and a long conversation."

Three thoughts went through my head. She did look good. I'm glad I'm not in high school anymore. I need more gay friends.

That's fierce!

Thanks for the laugh. I agree with you, I wouldn't go back to high school if you PAID me.

I think I'd rather be hugged for who I am, not how I look...

And yeah... I'm glad high school is so many years behind me!

That is just so totally lame. [sigh] Also, very funny.

There is nothing I would hate more than having to go back to school, what a hassle!

When my daughter was in 4th grade, she came home and told me that "Rachel" had try-outs today. What, I said. Try-outs for what? Try-outs to be her friend. WHAT?!!!! Oh yeah. Believe it or not, some 4th grade girls, but thankfully not my daughter, danced a little, laughed a little, and showed of their hair and outfits to determine who got to be "Rachel's" friends. I shit you not.

re: melissa's comment
as a teacher you quickly learn to find these sorts of things funny (see: amusing) or spend your life in a state of extreme depression over "the state of kids today". it doesn't mean you don't care, or worry, or wish things were different. it's just that you recognize the limits of your own power.

Don't be deceived !!! Our gay friends don't give us hugs when they think we look good. Actually, they have waay too much style and are always telling us how we can look better. They're our fashion police.

well, that makes sense jack.

I'm just stunned that "tore up" has now made its way into mainstream conversation. Oy.
