Happy Birthday, Goat!

Peek-a-boo! Say hello to the littlest sous chef, Nancy! Nancy is turning that magical age of ten. Double Digits! Remember when you turned that age? There is no more of using your hands to show everybody how old you are. You are a decade old. I can't believe she's been on this planet for ten years!
A little about Nancy... When I first found out I was pregnant, the doctor thought she was twins! I sat and cried because there is no way in the world I was having twins, when I already had a set of Irish twins, Andrew, at the time, was 2 years old and Will was 1 year old. I couldn't do actual twins. Imagine my relief when the sonogram said there was only one child!
Our family nickname for Nancy is Goat. Nancy = nanny = nanny goat = goat. She's also called The Golden Child. No, not because she's perfect. It's because in the summer her hair and her skin turns gold. Babies stare at her. Little kids and adults come up and touch her. It's very unsettling but I find myself doing the same thing.
For as long as I can remember she has had a paintbrush, crayon, or pencil in her hand. She was born an artist. Moody, temperamental, and a perfectionist. She prefers modern art. Picasso and Friedensreich Hundertwasser are a few of her favorites. Go figure, because at ten I sure wasn't thinking about art.

Tonight for her birthday dinner she has requested chicken tacos with rice and beans. Recipe and pictures tomorrow. I'm also thinking about making this cake from smitten kitchen. Wish me luck because I'm going to need it!

Happy birthday, little goat! Enjoy your chicken tacos. They sound wonderful and I can't wait for the recipe.

35 years ago when my mother made my favorite meal for my 10th birthday, it was meat loaf and twice-baked potatoes. I suspect you will remember your mother's chicken tacos for the rest of your life -- just as I do my mom's meat loaf.

She's so beautiful! You make me can't wait to be a mom, Krysta. Goat is lucky to have a cool mom like you, and you're lucky to have such wonderful little sous chefs! :)

Happy, happy birthday, dear!! Your birthday dinner sounds yummy! May you have many happy memories today and many more to come.

My middle daughter is turning 10 next month! You girls are about the same age! She is littler than you though . . . she will never be big, I'm not going to let her grow up. (She will argue with me about this, but I know I will win!) Her Dad says I should let her grow up, that way she can move out! Haha!!

(Hey there, catching up.)

A belated happy birthday to the brand new ten year old. And congrats to you too, Mom. Being able to count your years on every finger is an achievement for both of you.
